The Friday before Lent 2016 I went into my studio and painted what I have come to refer to as The Wilderness. The painting seemed awkward and dark. Little did I know that is was a foreshadowing of the journey that was to come.
It was the First Sunday in Lent.
In Christian tradition it is common to “give up something” for Lent. Instead of giving up something, I made the commitment to paint an angel a day during the 40 days of Lent. On Maundy Thursday 2016, by happenstance, I came across The Wilderness.
There in the middle of it was the figure of an angel.
It is my conviction that if you follow the subtle tones of life, God's path unfolds with grace and ease. Often, as in this case, I recognize the call of Spirit in hindsight. Little did I know on the first Sunday of Lent, that my body of work initially called Lenten Angels, would form the body for my first art show in 2017.
As you contemplate the coming year, recognizing your own trials and temptations in this modern-day wilderness of life, remember that God is with you each and every moment. He sends his angels to minister and attend to each of us even when we believe that we are alone and sorely in need of comfort. Perhaps one of these angels will remind you of God's infinite love and can serve to inspire you when you need God most.
If one of these Angels speak to you and reminds you of God's grace, they will be available for purchase during and after the opening. The four custom matted and framed angels are: 24.5" x 16", $345.00. All other angels are custom matted and glassed ready for hanging.
